12 Things to Always Remember

It's that time of the year once more... that's right, the turning of the year... from 2015, it's now page 3 of 366 days of 2016. I hope you welcomed the year with a big bang! I meant that in a good way though.

So, here I am again, looking for something inspiring and motivating as the new year starts. I do want to update this blog as much as I can, but at times, the inspiration escapes me. So I just grab it whenever it hits, like right now...

I found the above image somewhere on my Facebook feed, and I thought it worthy of sharing with as many people as possible. Why? Because I truly believe in these 12 things.

We find people who are in constant search for happiness. More often than not, the answer lies within each and every one of us... if only we take the time to really see it! >.<

The past cannot be changed. There's no sense in dwelling on it. Just keep moving forward. Tomorrow is another day!

Opinions don't define your reality. How many times have we heard that 'other people's opinion of you is none of your business?' I know it's too tempting sometimes to lash back... but is it really worth it?

Everyone's journey is different. I try and focus more on my own journey. I try not to dwell on other people's dramas. Life is simpler that way.

Things always get better with time. You simply need to believe. Because it really does.

Judgments are a confession of character. Are you in a habit of judging others? Do know that it says more about you than the person you are judging. Just saying.

Overthinking will lead to sadness. It's one bad habit I'm still working on. Sometimes, I overthink too much. Then one sad thought leads to another... and another... and another... so STOP!

Happiness is found within. No amount of external happiness can make one truly happy, esp. if happiness isn't in your heart. Reflect and meditate more on what makes you truly happy, then focus on that. I sure hope it isn't anything material, or you're in deep trouble! >.<

Positive thoughts create positive things. They say the mind is a powerful thing. We create what we think. Imagine attracting whatever it is your mind is thinking. I doubt you'd want to think negatively once you've realized that.

Smiles are contagious. ^_^ This is one reason why I enjoy watching and doing funny stuff more. Being around positive people also helps. Surround yourself with anything that makes you smile.

Kindness is free. Just imagine what the world will be like if everyone is kind. At times, it takes a lot of effort just to be kind. Do it anyway.

You only fail if you quit. So true indeed. Keep trying... until you succeed.

What goes around, comes around. Some folks simply do not believe in karma. No matter what, I believe in it. It's also one reason to always be kind. It comes around. >.<

And remember, HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE. So, always choose to be happy, no matter what! Till next update... have a truly joyful life! ^_^

7 Cardinal Rules for Life

It has been a long while since I posted anything on here. Yes, life has a habit of getting in the way. No, I don't want to get into a habit of making excuses. I just thought I'd post here once again when I came upon the above photo on Twitter. It would be good to be reminded of the above listed '7 cardinal rules for life.'

I follow them all, except perhaps I would put 'Smile' as number 1. It just makes everything easier when you smile, esp. when you're talking about work. >.< I need to work on number 6 though. Sometimes, I'm in the habit of thinking too much, even when I don't have all the answers. Thankfully, I get to silence my mind at times with reflection and meditation. >.<

If there's anything more to add, I'd say come up with a goal, or even goals, in life. It doesn't even matter if they're small, daily goals. Then, focus on achieving them. It truly helps a lot when one is busy being productive.

Lastly, ALWAYS CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY. The right attitude makes a huge difference in life. Till next time! >.<

Prayer for Kindness

Because I feel that the world needs a little more kindness, here's a prayer for kindness inspired by the leaflet "Simple Prayers for Busy People."

Prayer for Kindness

Sweet Jesus, You are so kind. I want to
be like You. Allow me to be a conveyor
of Your kindness today.

I pray for kind thoughts --
thoughts that will always think good
of others, thoughts that will give them
the benefit of the doubt, thoughts of
compassion and respect.

I pray for kind words -- words
of encouragement, words spoken in
graciousness. May kindness be the rule
every time I give instructions to others,
especially those under me.

I pray for kind actions -- actions
that add value to others, actions that
make others feel special,
May I seize every opportunity to be
kind today. Amen.

How to De-Stress After the Holidays

How fast time flies! It has been more than two weeks since the new year started. By now, a lot of people may have been slowly adjusting to regular routine after the holidays. Perhaps some have also found time to relax and de-stress. Hopefully, you are one of them.

However, if you still find yourself stressed out, this post may be of some help. The first thing you need to do is to find time to stop and meditate. If you have the time, sit still for 20 minutes. If not, sit still for an hour! Yes, that might sound ironic, but it's true. The more you find yourself too busy, the more you will need to slow down.

According to webmd.com, stress is a normal part of life. It can have positive effects like keeping us alert to avoid danger. However, stress can have negative effects too, esp. if you can't find time to relax or de-stress in between challenging situations. (For more info, read "The Effects of Stress on Your Body") So learn to stop, sit still every once in a while, and relax.

Then pray. Don't just find time, make time to pray. The prayer I'm sharing here is inspired by the leaflet "Simple Prayers for Busy People."

You can, of course, come up with your own prayers too. Praying from the heart helps a lot. I know 'coz it works for me.

A New Beginning ... Hello 2014!

Happy New Year! I shared above photo on my Facebook wall yesterday. It's now today and yes, it is the beginning of a 365-page journey. Deep inside, I know it's a great reminder that we have a hand in shaping our future somehow. I do look forward to the New Year every single time as for me, it's a chance for a new beginning. I may not have a New Year's resolution like in the past, but I do believe in setting goals and objectives. I consider them as a map in the path that I wish to take. If you haven't a plan, I suggest you start working on one right now. It may not mean that you'll get to accomplish all of them, but at least you'll have a checklist to see what else you want to do in your life.

Life is short. I certainly don't want to waste my time on earth and do as much as I can while I still can. Well, it's time to say good-bye to 2013! Hello 2014!

We Are Perfect Beings

I'd like to believe that we are born into this world with a set of goals to learn and improve on. No, I don't believe that anyone is perfect but that we can all aim towards being the best person we can be. That may be in this lifetime, or perhaps in the next, if you believe in the next life.

We are, and can be, perfect beings. Given the chance, invest in something beyond the physical level. Invest in knowledge and skills for I do believe that it stays with us whatever form we become or evolve into.

Welcome change. Welcome growth. Strive to be perfect beings.

Today's Checklist for Happiness

Life is simple so why do we insist on making it complicated? I found this short checklist and believe it's a good place to start towards making every day a happy day.

New Day ... New Lessons

For me, I look at a brand new day with hope and anticipation. It's like what I always say, "Each day is a brand new day, a chance to make a difference." No matter how difficult daily challenges may sometimes seem, there's always a lesson to be learned. What's important is to face it with a positive outlook. And believe that somehow, everything will be just fine.

50 Things Money Can't Buy

When I saw this on my Facebook news feed, I felt that I just gotta share this. I totally know and understand that it is a material world and the quality of your life sometimes depends on how much financial wealth you have. Sad but true! However, not having lots of money doesn't mean you need to be depressed. Money alone can't buy you happiness.. that's a state of mind! >.<

How about taking this checklist and see how many on the lists you enjoy right now? Remember that they can't be bought by money! >.<

Good vibes and positive thoughts always!

The Beautiful Simple Things

At this time, the whole Philippine nation is celebrating her win as Miss World 2013. Megan Lynne Young posted this on her Miss World - Philippines FB Page 10 days before coronation night. I'm a big fan of hers from the time I began watching her in a TV show that became my favorite -- TV5 Misibis Bay. Then she joined Miss World Philippines and won the crown to represent the country in the Miss World 2013 competition that held its finals last 28th September 2013. I believe posts such as above show us that Megan Young is the real deal and that she's truly worthy of representing Miss World Org. even for a year.

When have you stopped to appreciate the beauty in simple things? If you haven't been doing that lately, it's time to step back and go slow. Life is too short to be missed! ^_^

Welcoming the Year of the Water Snake

Free Orkut and My Space Chinese New Year Graphics Glitters

We're welcoming the Year of the Water Snake! Yes, it's the second "new year" that we're ushering in this year. This time it's the Chinese New Year based on the lunar calendar. As always, we are always full of hope at the beginning of each year. If you're a believer of Chinese zodiac signs and are also into feng shui, then you must be reading up on all sorts of information on what the Year of the Water Snake has in store for you and your loved ones. Well, here's one article that I found... Your Chinese Zodiac Sign’s Luck in the Year of the Water Snake.

Lucky or not, whatever your stars say about you and your future, ultimately I do believe that we carve our own destiny. The stars are but our guides. Some people don't even believe in them! As for me, astrology and other signs serve as a guide, but I don't totally base all my decisions on them. I do believe that each one of us can make a difference.

Here's a video that I found that tells something more about the Year of the Water Snake...

Scrap New Year Resolutions! They Don't Work!!

Satisfaction.com

First off, I'd like to greet you all a Happy New Year! 2012 is finally coming to a close. In a matter of hours, we're welcoming 2013! ^_^

So are you ready for the New Year? By that, I mean, have you set your goals for 2013? Yes, goal setting is quite important if you truly want to achieve something in life. It actually works for all aspects of life, not just for career. You may want to learn a new skill or overcome a fear. No matter what it is, it is important to know how to set a goal properly.

Forget New Year Resolutions! They don't work! How so? If you've tried in the past, you know it's not effective if you haven't written your goals down, set a target date when you wish to achieve it, and constantly remind yourself till you make it. I've written a more detailed article on that. You can read "Goal Setting for the New Year 2013."

Aside from that remember this acronym: S.M.A.R.T.

When you set goals, make sure they have these features...

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Realistic
  • Tangible (set a target date or deadline)

Here's a video that I found that explains more about goal setting in layman's terms... Enjoy and have a Happy New Year!!! ^_^

Wishing You All a Very Merry Christmas (2012)!

Thanks to +Dave Sutton for my awesome personalized spinning snowflake Christmas greeting! Here's wishing you all a blessed and merry Christmas! I hope that you're taking time out to spend it with your loved ones and family. And since you're reading this, it means we have survived December 21st, 2012. Yey! At least for now, we have the doomsday prediction behind us. ^_^

With Christmas right around the corner, I hope that you have prepared precious gifts for your loved ones and family. By gifts, I don't necessarily mean material ones. For example, have you prepared your gift of time? Yes, TIME! Spend lots of quality time with your family, esp. your kids if you're a parent. This is a good time for family bonding moments. While at it, add some gift of memories. Family bonding moments build memories that are precious to young children. Memories created will stay with them for a long time. I know 'coz I still vividly remember all the wonderful memories my mom has created with me and my brother! I make it a point to build lots of these memories with my daughter.

Well, I hope you will have a wonderful celebration!

"That’s what Christmas memories are made from, they’re not planned, they’re not scheduled, nobody puts them in their Blackberry, they just happen."
quote from Deck the Halls (2006) – Kelly Finch (Kristin Davis)

Five Easy Toning Exercises for Your Body

Exercise is an important part of our lives.  Staying in shape is one way to increase your life expectancy.  Weight bearing exercises are important also for increasing muscle mass and bone density as you age.

Most of us have learned what to do when it comes to exercising.  The problem is where and when to get the job done.  With a busy lifestyle, making time for exercise is a challenge.

Weight bearing exercises aren’t just for bodybuilders.  As you age, especially once you hit the age of forty, you begin to lose muscle mass.  For women especially, bone loss becomes a problem.  When the body is in need of calcium it can rob it from your bones.  Building muscle not only increases their mass but your strength.

Here are five easy toning exercises that can be done anywhere and whenever you have time.  At home, at the office, or on vacation, you can do these easy yet extremely effective exercises.

1. The Bridge Butt Lift – Sounds like a plastic surgery technique but it is an easy way to tone your buttocks.  Lay down with feet flat on the floor, legs shoulder width apart.  Place your hands, palm side down, on either side of your body.  Pushing with your feet, squeeze your gluteal muscles and lift your butt off the floor.  Hold the position for a count of five to ten and release down to the floor.

2. Squats – Squats work the butt, the hamstring muscles and the quadriceps.  If you aren’t sure of proper form, you can use a chair.  Stand with feet shoulder width apart and feet firmly planted.  Push your butt back as if you were preparing to sit in a chair.  Keep your abs tight and your upper body straight.  Once you reach chair level stop and hold the position for a count of two to five and release.  At the lowest point, place all of your weight on your heels for balance and maximum toning.

3. Reverse Lunges – Lunges work the quadriceps muscles.  They can be hard for people with knee problems.  A reverse lunge still tones the right muscle groups but with less pressure on the knee.  Stand with feet together and arms at your sides.  Take one leg and move it backwards until you are in lunge position: front leg bent at a 90 degree angle and back leg extended until you are on the ball of your foot.  From this position lower yourself down until the back knee almost touches the floor.  Hold for a count of two and return to starting position.

4. Pushups – This is a classic toning exercise that works all areas of the arms plus the chest muscles.  If you aren’t comfortable or strong enough to perform a pushup on your toes, lower your body to your knees.  Be sure your arms are tucked into the body and your back straight as you lower and lift your body.

5. Crunches – Abdominal muscles can be worked every day to build strength and muscle tone.  Lying on the floor in sit up position, lace your fingers behind your head.  Squeezing your abdominal muscles, lift your upper body until your lower back is about to come off the floor.  Hold for two to five counts and return to starting position.

These five exercise moves can be done whenever you have time.  The best thing about exercise is that its effects are cumulative.  Even five or ten minutes at a time will work to your advantage. ^_^

Only You Can Stop Yourself

Have you ever wanted to do something but was discouraged because people told you that you cannot do that something? Well, it is but natural to doubt yourself sometimes esp. at times when you're feeling low. But try and manage to bounce back and see things from a more positive perspective.

I'm a believer of positive affirmations. You are what you believe. You can do what you believe you can accomplish. So next time you find yourself doubting, STOP! Positive affirmations work. Just as Zig Ziglar said it, "Other people and things can stop you temporarily. You're the only one who can do it permanently."

Keep on believing in your success! ^_^

How to Overcome Emotional Eating

How many times have you heard that "You are what you eat." A lot I guess. Eating is part of the reason we are alive. Simply put, we need sustenance as living things. However, are you aware as to how healthy you are eating?

Some people tend to overeat. I know I do. We tend to go overboard with our eating habit and tend to gain lots of weight. That's me too, I know! But have you taken the time to look at what you eat and why you sometimes tend to eat too much? One reason could be emotional eating.

The problem of emotional eating may end with the scale but it begins in the mind.  Stress takes its toll on your life.  When your defenses are compromised your health takes a hit and so do your emotions.

Everyone has good days and bad days.  How we deal with the bad ones brings emotional eating into play.  You look for comfort for your hurts.  People who turn to food for comfort find a coping mechanism that won’t judge them, hurt them or tell them “no.” To complicate the issue, eating pleasurable foods can stimulate the release of endorphin just like exercise.  So, after you eat, you feel better.

Emotional eaters use food to relieve stress.  They hide behind the food instead of seeking solutions to the problems.  This is not uncommon when the stressor is something horrible such as physical abuse or a death.

But, how do you know you are using food in this way?  The first sign is obvious.  You will gain weight if you eat too much.  In light of the weight gain, examine other areas of your life:

* Have you been under stress lately at work or at home?
* Has anything traumatic happened in the last year?
* Are you dealing with a problem but haven’t found a solution?

Answering “yes” to any of these questions could mean that you are an emotional eater.  You eat but you are not necessarily hungry at the time.  The foods that you choose are what we term “comfort foods”:

* High fat foods like French fries, fried foods
* High carb foods like macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes
* Sugary foods like ice cream, donuts, cookies, cake

There is help for emotional eaters.  The first step is recognizing that you have a problem.  You’ll experience feelings of helplessness and guilt.  The guilt is over potentially ruining your health and the helplessness lies in the fact that you don’t see a way out.

Secondly, seek counseling.  There are many types of counselors out there that can meet your need.  Emotional eating has nothing to do with dieting or changing your eating habits but gaining control over your emotions.

A counselor might suggest things like visualization, practicing problem solving skills, relaxation techniques and family support.  Visualization helps you to see your problems in a realistic way and not blown out of proportion.  You will also learn to see food as nutrition for the body and not an emotional crutch.

Thirdly, your family can learn your triggers for stress and be on the lookout for changes in your eating habits.  They can help you be aware of the foods you are eating, assist you in making healthy food choices and exercise along with you.  Proper diet and exercise increases immunity, blood flow and positive thinking.  Yoga enhances the mind/body connection so you don’t eat when you aren’t hungry.

Finding new ways to solve your problems and deal with stress will push food out of the equation.  You’ll feel good about finding solutions which will replace the dependence on food.

Say Yes I Can!

Henry Ford was once quoted as saying, "If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right."

Is there something that you've always wanted to do, but kept putting off 'coz you think you can't do it? Well, I've got news for you. If you keep saying you can't, then that's exactly what will happen. As the quote here says, "Success comes in cans, not can'ts."

I'm not the most brilliant writer in class, nor am I the most competent. I just happen to be a person who likes to write and express her thoughts and views and share it with the world. But if I let lack of brilliance or competence as a writer stop me, you wouldn't be reading this right now. I wouldn't even be blogging if that was the case.

My point is, if there's something that you truly want to do and it won't hurt anyone -- I mean you're not out to do something bad or anything hurtful to anyone -- then just go ahead and do it. It could be that you've always wanted to dance or sing, write a poem, act on stage, and so on. Give it a shot! Nothing's impossible in this day and age. You'll never know if you don't try! So start by saying, "Yes, I can!" and be on your way to becoming a better you! ^_^

Think Highly of Yourself

Think Highly of Yourself

So you want people to treat you well and think highly of you. But keep in mind that you need to think highly of yourself first. People tend to treat you the way you let them treat you. If you let others push you around, then they will do just that.

We are all unique individuals with unique qualities and traits. I'd like to believe that even though no one is perfect, each one of us has been created for a purpose -- one that is beautiful and good.

Focus on your good qualities today. Think of how you can share them with as many people as you can. Take it from there. Then strive to become a better person each day. It's the least we can do to make this world a better place.

Happy Halloween! Bye October.. Hello November!

Happy Halloween to all who celebrate the occasion! Enjoy your trick or treating.. and stay safe! ^_^

Where I am it's All Saints' Day.. a time to commemorate our dearly departed loved ones. I'll be saying a prayer or two and then lighting up some candles and incense sticks. It's going to be all quiet. A perfect time to reflect and renew. Till next time...
